Farmer Fern & Friends Perform at the Well

I had my first performance with the Farmer Fern & Friends puppet troupe at the Well on Friday.  It was a lot of fun.  A wonderful group of children came out to see our puppet play.  We planted sugar snap pea seeds and made puppets.  The children were so creative.  Each one found inspiration in the materials provided and made their own original creations.  We constructed a theatre for the occasion.  Louisa built the frame and I helped decorate it.  We still have some more work to do but I am please with the results so far.  I want to make a banner for the top that says Farmer Fern & Friends.

Farmer Fern and Friends at The Well

This Friday, April 27th the Farmer Fern & Friends Puppet Program will be running a puppet workshop at The Well located at Kortright Presbyterian Church in Guelph.  Our group will be preforming a puppet play followed by seed planting and puppet making.  This weekend I made the samples of the bird puppets we will be creating with the participants of the workshop.  These bird puppets were quick, easy, and a lot of fun to make and provide endless possibilities for creating different looks.

Tiptoe Through the Tulips With Me

Tiptoe Through The Tulips With Me by Tiny Tim

Tulips are so inviting to photograph.  The lines and angles they make, the vast array of colours they display.  In bud and in blossom tulips love to be the focus of attention.  They are the first vibrant and strong pops of colour to appear each spring.  Painting the landscape here and there, making their bold statement.

Hello Frilly Daff-o-dilly!

Daffodowndilly
by A.A. Milne
She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sun light
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."

The daffodils have now made their debut in the garden.  What a beautiful and showy flower to appear wearing a frilly golden crown.  In my garden there is quite an assortment of daffodils, each one trying to outdo the others by proudly displaying their bursts of white, yellow and orange colours.

Spring Has Sprung!

Oh, how I love Spring!  It is a time for renewal and growth.  This year spring has definitely sprung early.  The flowers are now emerging from their long winter sleeps.  What a cheerful greeting to welcome in the new season.
Here are some of the first images of the season I have captured from the garden.  There will be many more to follow soon.

Magical Wands Workshop with Spark of Brilliance

Tomorrow (Tuesday, April 10th) I will be teaching my first gift making workshop with Spark of Brilliance.  Check out the link to find out more about Spark of Brilliance.  Participants will create their own personalized Magic Wand using embroidery, beading, and needle felting techniques.  I am really looking forward to sharing this project with others.  They are sure to bring a smile onto any child's face.

Here are some samples I have been working on.

BiRDEYE Handmade: All Things Handmade

Hello everyone and welcome!  I am excited to begin this journey of documenting my creative activities and all things handmade.  I am an avid crafter, dabbling in sewing, felting, embroidery, knitting, etc.... to name a few.  I especially enjoy making toys and items for children.  I am a regular thrift shopper and love creating new items from old discarded ones.

The kitchen in another domain where I enjoy experimenting and creating.  I am a vegetarian who doesn't eat out very often so I like to explore new recipes and cooking techniques.  For me cooking and gardening go hand and hand.  Living in Canada definitely limits the gardening season, however when summer comes, it's on!  I love to grow things I can eat!

Along the way I like to take lots of pictures.

Sit back, relax, have a cup of tea and enjoy!
